May 9, 2006 a Rock of Remembrance was placed in front of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 236, St Marys, Ontario, to commemorate veterans' war efforts. Legion members had decided to place the permanent reminder to commemorate 2005, The Year of the Veteran. At a later ceremony Legion Padre Major Jim Hann of the Salvation Army and former padre Rev. Richard Bott of the United Church dedicated the marker stone, with many veterans and their families in attendance. The ceremony began with a drumhead parade. The marker has a crushed limestone base and a 5,000-lb. stone, donated by St. Marys Cement. The stone itself was chiselled and painted by Jeff LeBlanc of St. Marys.
